Team work is central to providing our clients with the best results

Norm Dionne is a lawyer practicing in labor and employment law and has acquired a specialization in the artistic field. He is one of the few lawyers in Quebec to know in depth the unions and artistic guilds. He is recognized by his peers as one of the best in Canada.

With degrees in both industrial relations and law, Norm assists his clients to find practical and efficient solutions. While he represents and advises a diversified clientele, he is a recognized leader in the legal aspects of artistic productions.

In his labour law practice, Norm has broad experience with union certification, the negotiation of collective agreements, grievance arbitration, labour conflicts, and related issues. In the area of employment law, he is often called upon to negotiate and draft employment contracts and help resolve disputes arising during the course of employment or upon its termination.

For more 25 years, Norm has represented renowned clients in the field of artistic production. He is regularly consulted by producers of films, stage shows, sound recordings, and video clips, producers’ associations, promoters and their associations, as well as broadcasters in Canada and the United States. Together with Roy L. Heenan, he represented the Québec Government in discussions on film dubbing and the renewal of film and DVD distributor agreements between the Québec Government and major U.S. studios.

In May 2009, Norm presented arguments before the Québec parliamentary commission on proposed amendments to the Act respecting the professional status and conditions of engagement of performing, recording and film artists. He has given many lectures and published numerous articles on labour law, employment law, and artistic productions, and he is accredited under the mandatory continuing education program of the Barreau du Québec. In 2010, he co-authored the first reference work on the Act respecting the professional status and conditions of engagement of performing, recording and film artists.

Since June 2015, he is a member of the Human resources committee of the Board of trustees of the National Arts Centre.

He was a director of the Ballets Jazz de Montréal dance company from 2003 to 2008.
